Bird Song at Sunset

It was late. I was making my way back from a somewhat remote/lonely spot Friday… spent feet, boots crunching on desert sand and river rock, and that usual annoying horsefly buzzing around my head. I was heading due west for the barn, until a great chorus of birds suddenly stopped me in my tracks. They were East of me… and yet the birdsong seemed to be coming from everywhere as they sang their little hearts out. Time enough to stop and pull up the iPad and record a slice of the experience. Oh, it was such a sublime little moment that I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry. Maybe I did a little of both, while shooing that pesky horsefly away and turning to face the setting sun. Oh, fire in the sky! No wonder the birds had struck up that magnificent chorus. “God is good.”
